NavPrakriti, a lithium-ion battery recycling and refurbishment company, has announced plans to invest over INR 100 crore to establish a state-of-the-art greenfield critical minerals refining facility in Odisha. This facility is expected to become operational by FY 2028–29.

The company has recently been considered eligible under the National Critical Mineral Mission for the extraction of cobalt, nickel, and lithium. The new facility will process up to 5,000 metric tonnes per annum of end-of-life batteries, focusing on the extraction of critical minerals to strengthen India’s circular economy and reduce dependence on imports.

The company said it is developing a robust R&D ecosystem through partnerships with institutions of national and global eminence, advancing technology for chemical recovery and battery refurbishment.

Founded in 2024 by Akhilesh and Avnish Bagaria, NavPrakriti’s first unit in Serampore, West Bengal, is already operational. This lithium-ion battery recycling plant has an annual capacity of 12,000 tonnes, scalable to 24,000 tonnes. The upcoming Odisha plant will be the company’s second greenfield unit dedicated to extraction of critical minerals. It will be designed for high-purity recovery of lithium, cobalt, nickel, and other rare earth minerals from spent batteries.

NavPrakriti recently partnered with NASH Energy to ensure responsible end-of-life management and closed-loop recycling for all batteries produced by NASH, including production scrap.
