KPIT Technologies, a Pune-headquartered automotive software and engineering solutions provider, is conducting field trials of sodium-ion battery packs in electric three-wheelers. The sodium-ion battery technology has been designed and developed by KPIT, for automotive as well as stationary applications.

Sodium is more abundant and widely available than lithiumKPIT’s research focus is to develop sodium-based cathode materials for high-capacity sodium-ion batteries. It is also designing and developing high-capacity pouch and prismatic cells that can be charged faster than lithium-ion cells and enable longer-life modules.

The company is working to improve the sodium-ion battery performance, cost and durability.
