Land acquisition has been completed for 40 GWh of manufacturing capacity awarded under India’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for advanced chemistry battery cells (ACC), the Ministry of Heavy Industries shared in the parliament recently.
Approved in May 2021, the scheme has a total outlay of INR 18,100 crore and aims to establish 50 GWh of domestic ACC manufacturing capacity. It is designed to boost local manufacturing, reduce import dependence, and position India as a global hub for battery production.
Of the total 50 GWh target, 40 GWh has been awarded to beneficiary companies, including Rajesh Exports (5 GWh), Ola Electric (20 GWh), and Reliance New Energy (15 GWh, including 5 GWh from the first round and 10 GWh from the second round of allocations).
While land acquisition has been completed for the awarded capacity, only 1 GWh has been commissioned so far, by Ola Electric.
The PLI-ACC scheme is pan-India in scope and does not mandate specific locations for manufacturing facilities. Companies can select sites based on business strategy, infrastructure availability, and access to resources.
