The Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) has invited Expression of Interest (EOI) from manufacturers/integrators to supply and install solar-based drinking water kiosks, solar trees, and solar street lighting systems and e-rickshaw charging infrastructure in the town of Konark.

The initiative is part of the Konark Solarization project proposed under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s High Visibility Solar Applications Scheme and Off-grid Solar Power Scheme.

The project aims to meet all the energy requirements of Konark town with solar energy and will be done by OREDA with 100% central financial assistance (CFA) of around Rs 25 crore through MNRE.

Under this initiative, 40 solar-based drinking water kiosks, 50 solar trees for powering 200 streetlights, and 20 e-rickshaws and two charging stations having both AC and DC charging options are proposed.

The work includes design, engineering, installation, testing, commissioning, and operation and maintenance.

The Konark Solarization project aims to minimize Konark town’s overall carbon footprint by replacing conventional grid power with solar energy. The project primarily entails installing a grid-connected solar power plant of suitable capacity to make Konark a zero-net-energy notified area council. It further explores the relevance and scope of introducing various on-grid and off-grid applications of solar power.
