Following its counterpart Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Central Electronics Limited is looking to cater to the demand of ICU ventilators for Covid-19 patients in India by offering its expertise and technical competency.

The state-owned solar cell manufacturer has sought an expression of interest from established ventilator manufacturers to set up manufacturing facilities of ICU ventilators at its premises in the country.

With this CEL has joined the list of companies from the solar space that have ventured into development of ventilators to fight Covid-19 pandemic.

BHEL, another state-owned solar cell and module manufacturer, will be supplying 30,000 ventilators in the coming months.

On the other hand, Pune based Nocca Robotics, an IIT Kanpur-incubated start-up which provides waterless robotic cleaning solution for solar plants, has developed the prototype of an invasive, portable ventilator.

Scope of work

Applicants selected against the CEL tender shall be responsible for setting up ventilator manufacturing facility at CEL premises, in addition to supply, installation, commissioning and comprehensive maintenance of ventilators at end user’s facility (hospital/isolation facility).

CEL will empanel selected applicants based on their experience and the recommendation of its evaluation committee.

Apart from being the first manufacturer in silicon photovoltaics in India, CEL has expertise in railway signaling equipment, different types of ceramics parts, technical and structural ceramics, dielectric substrate for ammunition & PZT elements in the country.
