India will install around 20-25 GW of new renewable energy capacity annually over the next two fiscals, driven by a healthy project pipeline and a strong bidding roadmap. The decline in solar module prices and one-year relaxation for the approved list of module manufacturers (ALMM) bode well for the capacity addition.

The state-owned hydropower producer has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Grid Corp. of Odisha (GRIDCO) to develop 2 GW of pumped storage and 1 GW of solar energy projects in Odisha.

The state-owned hydropower producer is exploring pumped storage development in Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha.

NHPC has secured a 200 MW solar project within Gujarat State Electricity Corp Ltd’s 600 MW solar park at Khavda in Gujarat.

Solar Energy Corp. of India, NTPC, and NHPC would examine developers’ requests for an extension to their solar and wind-solar projects on a case-by-case basis. The extension would be granted only if the developer has taken all possible measures to implement the project (such as land acquisition and order for module/balance-of-system supply) but couldn’t complete it for reasons beyond his control.

NHPC has invited domestic bids to set up a cumulative 350 MW of floating solar power capacity, which includes 300 MW in Odisha and 50 MW in Kerala.

The structured bidding trajectory will provide sufficient time to renewable energy developers to plan their finances, develop business plans and manage the supply chain more efficiently, said power minister R.K. Singh.

The state-owned hydropower producer, which has also diversified into the field of solar and wind power, has reported a net profit of INR 2,483 crore ($307 million) for the half-year ended Sept 30, 2022–a 12% jump year-on-year.

Bundelkhand Saur Urja Limited (BSUL) has opened bids from project management consultants for 1.2 GW Jalaun Solar Park it is developing in the Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh.

State-run hydropower producer NHPC Ltd is also entering green hydrogen production. To begin with, it will set up pilot green hydrogen projects in Leh and Kargil districts of the Indian union territory of Ladakh.
