Bluetti, a Chinese manufacturer of energy storage and portable power systems, has unveiled what it calls “the world’s first sodium-ion portable power station”.

Announced at IFA 2025 in Berlin, the Pioneer Na uses sodium-ion cells and has a capacity of 900 Wh with a 1,500 W power output. In a special mode for purely resistive loads, output can scale up to 2,250 W.

A key feature is temperature performance: the Pioneer Na can be charged at -15 °C and discharged at -25 °C. It supports 1,900 W of solar input, offers a 4,000-cycle lifetime, and weighs 16 kg – around 20 to 25% heavier than comparable traditional lithium iron phosphate (LFP) portable stations.

In addition, by comparison, LFP batteries generally require temperatures above 0 °C to charge.

At -25 °C, the Pioneer Na delivers 80% discharge capacity, powering devices up to 1,500 W. Below -10 °C (14 °F), it can recharge to 60% state of charge.

Bluetti is emphasizing its benefits in cold climates, suggesting it is well-suited for households in colder regions looking for reliable backup power. The company is also supplying a polar explorer heading to Antarctica and the South Pole, where the new model will be tested.

Bluetti didn’t focus on or discuss possible safety benefits from the sodium-ion or Na-ion cells when compared to LFP or other lithium-ion-based chemistries. Na-ion cells may demonstrate improved safety if cells are punctured, and have a higher threshold for thermal runaway.

The Pioneer Na will be available globally from October 15, 2025, via Bluetti’s official website. Pricing has not yet been announced.
