Adani Group deploys India’s first hydrogen-powered truck for mining logistics

Adani Enterprises, part of Adani Group, has launched India’s first hydrogen fuel cell-powered truck for mining logistics in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur district. The truck will be used to transport coal from the Gare Pelma III Block to a state-run power plant.

These hydrogen-powered trucks will gradually replace diesel vehicles used in the company’s logistics operations. Each truck, equipped with smart technology and three hydrogen storage tanks, can transport up to 40 tons of cargo over a 200-kilometer range.

The project is part of a larger initiative by the Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Co. Ltd, which appointed Adani Enterprises as the Mine Developer and Operator (MDO) for the Gare Pelma III coal block through a competitive bidding process. The initiative is being spearheaded by Adani Natural Resources (ANR) in collaboration with Adani New Industries Ltd (ANIL), both subsidiaries of Adani Enterprises. ANR will source hydrogen fuel cells from ANIL, which is also engaged in green hydrogen, solar modules, wind turbines, and battery manufacturing.
