India surpasses 90 GW of installed solar capacity

India’s cumulative solar PV installations hit 90.76 GW at the end of September 2024, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). The total includes 70.05 GW of ground-mount, 14.30 GW grid-connected PV rooftop, 2.63 GW from solar component of hybrid projects, and 3.78 GW off-grid installations.

The state of Rajasthan tops in installed PV capacity, accounting for 24.2 GW of cumulative installations. Gujarat ranks second with 15.1 GW of PV, followed by Tamil Nadu with 9.3 GW.

The PV capacity addition in H1 FY 2025 (April 1 to Sept. 30, 2024) stood at around 8,948.49 MW.

The nation’s cumulative installed RE capacity hit 201,458 MW at the end of September 2024. This includes 90,762.12 MW solar, 47,362.92 MW wind power, 46,928.17 MW large hydro, 5,075.75 MW small hydro power, and 11,328.95 MW biopower.
