JSW Energy has secured 500 MW/1 GWh of battery energy storage system projects by placing a winning bid in an auction by Solar Energy Corporation of India. The auction attracted bids from companies like Acme, Hartree Partners Singapore, Eden Renewable, Sterlite Power Transmission, NTPC Renewable Energy, ReNew, and Azure Power, in addition to JSW Energy.

As per the tender requirement, JSW will set up the BESS plant in Rajasthan, close to Fatehgarh-III Substations of the ISTS network. It can set up the BESS as two projects of 250 MW size, each with the capacity to store at least two hours of electricity.

The battery energy storage capacity will be made available to the SECI (acting as an intermediary nodal agency for using the energy storage facility) or other buying entities for charging/discharging “on demand.”
