Reliance New Energy appoints COO for silicon crystal and wafering

Reliance Industries’ new energy arm has appointed industry expert Hak Do Yoo as chief operating officer for silicon crystal and wafering. The appointment is the latest in Reliance New Energy’s strategic moves to acquire the best technology and talent for its upcoming fully vertically integrated polysilicon-to-solar module manufacturing unit in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

Yoo brings a wealth of experience in semiconductor wafer research, development, and production. Before joining Reliance New Energy, he worked with Zing Semiconductor Corp, a Chinese company that provides 300mm (12-inch) semiconductor silicon wafers commercially.

He also served as president-silicon technologies he led the development and production of n-type and p-type silicon crystal growth for high-efficiency solar cells, including wafering.

Yoo led South Korea-headquartered ingot and wafer manufacturer Woongjin Energy as chief executive officer and president. He was also senior vice president and director of R&D Center at semiconductor specialist LG Siltron, and principal researcher at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology.
