Tata Power, India’s largest non-utility power producer, has been awarded 100 MW of solar generation capacity at the Dholera Solar Park, in Gujarat.

The project capacity was awarded by state utility Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), which will buy the solar power generated under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA).

Tata Power secured the award in a 700 MW auction announced by GUVNL in March which had a tariff ceiling of INR2.92/kWh.

Deadline

The project must be commissioned within 15 months from the date of execution of the PPA. When operational, the 100 MW park is expected to generate around 246 GWh of clean energy per year, offsetting around 246 million kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

The project means Tata Power has 620 MW of solar capacity under development in Gujarat, 400 MW of which is at Dholera.

“It is an important milestone in the company’s endeavor to [secure] 35-40% of Tata Power’s total generation capacity [is] from clean energy sources and will go a long way to meet the country’s commitment towards green and clean energy,” said a press statement by the developer.

Tata Power claims to have 2,637 MW of operational renewables generation capacity with a further 1,299 MW–including the Dholera award–under development.
