Raj Kumar Singh kicks off Global RE-Invest 2017 and Founding Ceremony of ISA

Union Minister of State for Ministry of Power and New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), R K Singh, speaking at a curtain raising ceremony, held on October 12, has announced the second edition of the Global Renewable Energy (RE) Investors Meet and Expo – RE-INVEST 2017, and ISA Foundation.

The announcement was held in the presence of French Ambassador to India, Alexandre Ziegler. France will be the partner country for the RE-INVEST 2018. The event will be held from April, 19 – 21 2018 in India.

At the ceremony, Minister for Infrastructure and Sustainable Development for Republic of Kiribati, Ruateki Tekaiara has signed the Framework Agreement of International Solar Alliance (ISA), the Pacific island nation becoming the 41st country to do so.

Addressing the gathering, Singh noted that India’s energy needs are going to double in the next 6-7 years, at the present rate of growth of the economy. He added that with RE capacity of 175 GW by 2022, India will eliminate 326 million tons of CO2 emissions per year.

Singh noted that investing in Indian RE sector will help in reduction of global carbon footprint. In addition, it is also a great business opportunity for all partner Nations, looking at the size of RE market in India.

He said, “India invites all nations to partner in the endeavor to harness clean energy and save the planet.”

Speaking on the occasion, Anand Kumar, Secretary, MNRE, informed attendees that RE-INVEST 2018 is likely to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. It is also expected that French President Emmanuel Macron will attend the ISA launch.

At the event in December, the heads of various ministries of India, and of international agencies such as the International Energy Agency, International Renewable Energy Agency and bilateral and multilateral financing institutions will be participating. The event will also include government to government, government to business and business to business interactions.
