Energy storage is the new solar for an increasing number of Chinese PV manufacturers. However, China still requires enabling policies for storage to provide the end-market volumes needed to bolster the fortunes of manufacturers old and new.

The solar capacity installation in the first six months of 2023 was about 15% less year-on-year.

India installed 12.3 GW of solar in the twelve months ending March 31, 2022. The nation is expected to add a record 20 GW in the current fiscal.

ReNew Power was the top utility-scale solar developer in 2021, commissioning the largest amount of capacity. Tata Power Solar led in rooftop solar installations, accounting for 20% of total annual additions. 

India installed 41.7GW of cumulative utility-scale solar capacity as of Dec. 31, 2021. It has another 44.6GW in the pipeline.

India added 10.4GW of solar power generation capacity in the January-December period of 2021. Out of this, 42% was installed in Rajasthan alone.

JMK Research analysts expect the solar installation activity to further pick up in the fourth quarter. They estimate around 3.5 GW of new utility-scale solar capacity and 1 GW of hybrid capacity addition in the October-November-December period.

The Chinese string inverter giant was the world’s biggest supplier for the fourth year in a row, despite ceding 4% of its global market share, according to analyst Wood Mackenzie. Asia-Pacific was again the largest inverter market, accounting for 64% of global shipments.
