With commissioning of the balance 351 MW of projects in four districts of Tamil Nadu, the state-run power producer has completed the entire 709 MW solar capacity awarded by utility Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation.
India is set to add renewable energy capacity of 15,860 MW in 2019, a leap of 50% on the 10,560 MW installed last year. Around 70% – 10,902 MW – of the new capacity will come from utility-scale solar projects, according to Bridge To India analysts.
With a rapid reduction in costs, solar plus storage can be an effective alternative for customers buying peak power from the grid. At the same time, utilities can avoid investments in peak capacity or eliminate load shedding by utilizing these resources.
The thermal energy giant of India has commissioned a 130 MW solar plant in the state of Tamil Nadu, comprised of two, 65 MW blocks across 655 acres.
