Electric vehicle adoption in India will be led by three-wheelers

Electric vehicles will account for 65-75% of new three-wheeler (3W) sales by 2030. Intra-city transport buses will see 25-40% EV penetration and two-wheelers 25-35%. In four-wheeler passenger vehicles, the market will be driven by shared mobility, while just 10-15% of new car sales for personal mobility will be electric.

Corporate renewable power procurement: Global models and their suitability for India

Commercial and industrial (C&I) sector consumes 51% of the total electricity generated in India, with a mere 3% of this consumption coming from renewable energy. To increase renewable energy uptake among C&I consumers, India needs to explore new models like virtual power purchase agreements, green tariffs, internationally tradable RECs that have already been successfully tried and tested in many countries—according to a report by climate advocacy group WWF India.

As the country races to add or upgrade infrastructure for electricity transmission, it needs to take steps to encourage private investments as also lower consumer prices—according to a white paper by Confederation of Indian Industry that includes recommendations on planning, operations and costs for a robust transmission system.
