The 120kW solar rooftop plant has been developed under the rooftop scheme by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for government entities. SPA and Amp Energy India have signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) under this scheme for procurement of solar power for 25 years.

This solar plant will generate about 1.68 lakh units per year, cater to around 50% of the school’s energy consumption and save 18%-20% on their electricity bill every year.

In addition to economic savings, the plant will also help mitigate about 600 tons of CO2 per annum.

This project is one of the several solar projects developed by Amp Energy India for educational institutions in India. Amp India has already commissioned solar projects for Pondicherry University, National Law University (Bhopal) and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior among others.

“We believe solar power should be a part of most of real estate development projects across India. Partnering with educational institutions provide the right platform to demonstrate the upcoming generation about the benefits of renewables. India is at an inflection point in transitioning to renewables and this sector can play a key role in providing a key voice by adopting renewable energy for economic and environmental benefits,” Pinaki Bhattacharyya, MD and CEO, Amp Energy India said.

“To have sustainable growth along with caring for the environment is one of the top mantras at SPA. This partnership with Amp Energy India will not only help is saving our power costs and becoming more energy efficient but also will ensure reduction in carbon footprints as an institute to a large extent,” Prof. Dr. Minakshi Jain, Director, School of Planning & Architecture Vijayawada said.

Amp Energy India with its diversified portfolio of projects has developed large rooftop projects including some landmark solar rooftop projects for L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd (7.8MW), Tata Hitachi Construction Machinery (10.5MW) and the largest solar rooftop for an industrial customer for Skoda Auto Volkswagen India (18.5MW).
