Advantage of back-contact solar modules in shading scenarios is limited to specific conditions, study finds

Researchers from Trina Solar and China’s Nanchang University claim to have verified that back-contact solar modules outperform TOPCon modules only when fewer than three cells in a substring are shaded. Their findings were published in a peer-reviewed scientific paper.

Beyond Rhetoric: India’s clean energy investments speak for themselves

India has drawn billions of dollars into renewable infrastructure from global institutional investors, private equity firms, and corporate stakeholders. Initiatives such as the National Solar Mission, coupled with predictable tariff structures and streamlined regulatory mechanisms, have created a conducive environment for capital deployment.

Jinko edges past Longi in first-half solar shipments as TOPCon dominates

InfoLink Consulting says global module shipments rose 10% to 247.9 GW in the first half of 2025, with JinkoSolar narrowly pushing past Longi and tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) tech accounting for more than 94% of the total.

Insolation Green Energy’s new 3 GW solar module factory begins production

Insolation Green Energy has commenced commercial operations at its new 3 GW PV module manufacturing plant in Rajasthan.

Tongwei achieves 31.4% efficiency for perovskite-silicon tandem solar cell

Chinese researchers, led by a research team from PV Technology Center of Tongwei Co., Ltd, used a sequential annealing process in the fabrication of tandem solar cells, featuring a wide bandgap perovskite top cell on a fully-textured commercial crystalline silicon heterojunction bottom cell. The resulting device had a certified power conversion efficiency of 31.4%, outperforming a 29.43%-efficient control cell.

Vikram Solar IPO subscribed 1.52 times on first day

Vikram Solar Ltd’s Initial Public Offering (IPO) received a strong response on Day 1, with the non-institutional investors’ portion subscribed 3.84 times and the retail portion 1.37 times.

Tindo presents new 475 W full-black residential solar panel

Tindo Solar, Australia’s lone producer of PV modules, has officially released a new generation of TOPCon N-type solar panels, including an all-black version featuring an output of 475 W and conversion efficiency of 21.9%.

First attempt to build lead-free perovskite-CIGS tandem solar cells

Indian researchers simulated a novel pairing of a CsGeI3 lead-free halide perovskite top cell with a copper-indium-gallium-selenide bottom cell. The resulting tandem device has the potential to achieve a power conversion efficiency of 26.06%

UNSW study shows impact of soldering flux on TOPCon solar cell degradation

UNSW researchers have investigated the impact of two types of soldering fluxes on TOPCon solar modules under damp heat conditions and have found that “no-clean” soldering fluxes can cause severe corrosion of front silver-aluminum contacts. The researchers have also found that denser metallisation structures and lower aluminium content improve corrosion resistance.
