Building the green hydrogen economy in India

Experts at a recent workshop by industry body India Hydrogen Alliance (IH2A) and the government thinktank NITI Aayog proposed the formation of a public-private taskforce to develop gigawatt-scale green hydrogen hubs in India. The taskforce will have participation from global funding agencies, industry and government.

Ohmium to sponsor CSIR-CECRI research on advanced materials for electrolyzers

Ohmium has collaborated with India’s CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute as it aims to make green hydrogen not only cost-effective but also scalable to meet the world’s demand. Reliance Industries commits over US$75 billion for green energy projects in Gujarat

The Mukesh Ambani-led diversified business conglomerate has agreed to invest INR 5 lakh crore (US$67.6 billion) in building 100 GW of renewable energy capacity and green hydrogen eco-system in the State. It will also invest INR 60,000 crore (US$8.1 billion) in setting up manufacturing facilities for new and renewable energy equipment including solar modules, electrolyzers, energy-storage batteries, and fuel cells.

USA-headquartered Ohmium International, through its subsidiary in India, manufactures modular-interlocking proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers for hydrogen production. The company aims to make India a nucleus for global hydrogen-based green energy solutions with R&D centers in Silicon Valley (USA) and Bengaluru (India).

Grid-scale battery storage and green hydrogen market shaping up in India

India has seen substantial activity in the domestic battery storage and green hydrogen markets, from the entry of Reliance and Acme Solar in green hydrogen to gigawatt-scale battery storage tenders by NTPC and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). There are more private ventures in the offing, indicating the government’s policy push is in the right direction.
