Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd. (MSEDCL), the state-owned discom, has announced that the state has successfully installed an unprecedented 45,911 solar water pumps in just one month, marking one of the largest and fastest renewable-energy irrigation deployments in the world. This achievement completes its Guinness World Records attempt under the Magel Tyala Solar Pump initiative.
Shakti Pumps (India) Ltd emerged as the largest contributor to this record-setting feat, installing 8,846 solar pumps—the highest by any participating company.
The audited period for the Guinness World Records attempt spanned from 27 October, 12:01 AM, to 25 November, 11:59 PM, during which installations were carried out across multiple districts.
Officials highlighted that the Magel Tyala Solar Pump initiative has transformed irrigation for farmers across Maharashtra. By enabling reliable daytime solar-powered irrigation and providing free household electricity at night, the programme has significantly reduced both farming and living expenses.
The record verification involved a comprehensive, multi-level audit process. Of the 50,000 installations completed, 45,911 pumps were approved, following vendor-level checks, two independent audits by solar experts, and a final assessment by the Centre for Energy Studies at Savitribai Phule Pune University. The validated count was confirmed today and showcased at the event.
Dinesh Patidar, Chairman of Shakti Pumps, said, “Being the largest contributor with 8,846 installations reflects our strong engineering capabilities and the trust placed in us. This initiative has empowered thousands of farmers with reliable, clean-energy irrigation, and we are honoured to support a historic achievement recognised on a global stage.”
He added that under the government’s PM-KUSUM scheme, which promotes solar-powered irrigation solutions, Shakti Pumps has successfully installed over 150,500 solar pumps to date, directly benefiting farmers across several states.
