India installed 29.5 GW of solar and 4.96 GW wind capacity in the first nine months of 2025 (Jan.–Sep), according to JMK Research.

From Jan. to Sep. 2025, about 22.5 GW of new utility-scale solar capacity was added in India. This represents an increase of about 70.3% in installations compared to the first nine months of 2024. Notably, around 50% of this capacity (11.1 GW) was commissioned in Q3 2025 alone.

Rooftop solar additions in the nine months stood at 5.8 GW, marking a remarkable 81.6% increase compared year-on-year. Around 46% of these installations were added during the third quarter of 2025.

In the off grid/distributed solar segment, about 1166 MW was added in the first nine months of 2025, which is about 12.7% higher than the installations in the same period last year.

According to data released by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) as of September 2025, India’s total renewable energy (RE) installed capacity has reached approximately 247.3 GW. Solar energy contributes approximately 52% of the total RE segment, making it the largest contributor, followed by wind at 21%, large hydro at 20%, bio power at 5%, and small hydro at 2%.
