Transmission Corp. of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (APTRANSCO) has invited bids for setting up a 2 GWh (1 GW x 2 hours) standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) in Andhra Pradesh. The project will be supported by viability gap funding (VGF) through the Power System Development Fund (PSDF) and will be implemented on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis.

The grid-connected BESS capacity will be deployed across seven APTRANSCO substations in the state.

APTRANSCO and the state DISCOMs will enter into a battery energy storage purchase agreement (BESPA) with the selected developers to provide energy storage services to DISCOMs on an on-demand basis, as per instructions from the State Load Despatch Centre (SLDC) or the respective DISCOMs.

The selected BESS developers’ scope includes setting up the BESS, interconnection with the State Transmission Utility (STU) network, and complete operations and maintenance of the system.

The BESS must support charging and discharging at a C-rate of 0.5, and should be capable of being charged or discharged in blocks of either 50 MW/100 MWh or 75 MW/150 MWh up to the total rated capacity specified at each location/ project.

APTRANSCO will provide land to the developer on a right-of-use basis at an annual lease charge of INR 1 per acre.

Bidding closes on Sep. 29.
