Ratul Puri’s energy venture Hindustan Power has been awarded a Letter of Intent (LOI) by Bihar State Power Generation Co. Ltd (BSPGCL) to develop a 120 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) across three critical grid substations in Bihar. The project was awarded through tariff-based competitive bidding and will be implemented on a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) basis.
The capacity will span Bhagalpur, Udakishanganj and Sitamarhi with installations of 40 MWh each and is scheduled for commissioning within 18 months from the effective date of the battery energy storage purchase agreement (BESPA).
Part of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s approved 500 MWh BESS initiative in Bihar, the project will ensure an uninterrupted and high-quality power supply and help balance demand and supply during peak hours.
