Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd (KREDL) has invited bids for the development of a 250 MW solar PV power project along with a 250 MW/1,100 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at Ryapte in Karnataka. The selected developer will develop the project on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis with the objective to supply peak power and optimize grid utilization at the Pavagada Solar Park.
The Karnataka electricity supply companies (ESCOMs) will enter into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the successful developers for a period of 25 years. KREDL will act as the nodal agency for facilitating the procurement of solar power with BESS on behalf of ESCOMs.
For the purpose of developing the solar PV project with BESS, land parcels located in the Tirumani gram panchayat area near Pavagada in Tumkur district will be provided by KREDL to the successful renewable power developer on a lease basis.
“BESS will mandatorily constitute part of the solar power project. BESS charged using a source other than solar power would not qualify as RE power. BESS may be owned by the renewable power developer or tied up separately with a third party by the developer. The BESS technology can be changed by the developer at any time during the term of the PPA,” as per the tender.
