Tata Power Renewable secures PPA with NTPC for 200 MW renewables-plus-storage project

Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), an arm of Tata Power, has secured a power purchase agreement (PPA) with NTPC Ltd, India’s largest integrated power company, to develop a 200 MW firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) project.

The project, spread across multiple locations in India, is set for completion within 24 months and, when operational, is expected to generate around 1,300 million units (MUs) of electricity annually, mitigating over one million tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

TPREL had won this project through competitive bidding. The project would consist of solar, wind and battery energy storage system (BESS) components to ensure 4-hour peak power supply, ensuring at least 90% availability during peak demand hours to support the growing energy needs of distribution companies.

With this project, TPREL’s total renewable utility capacity has reached 10.9 GW. This includes 5.5 GW operational (4.5 GW solar and 1 GW of wind energy) and 5.4 GW under various stages of implementation (2.7 GW solar and 2.7 GW of wind projects). These ongoing projects are set for completion in phases over the next 6 to 24 months.
