Indian solar manufacturer Premier Energies today opened its new state-of-the-art cells and modules manufacturing facility in Telangana.

The facility, located at Electronic City near Hyderabad’s airport, is a 25-acre greenfield project built with an investment of an INR 483 crore. It has an annual cell and module production capacity of 750 MW. With this launch, the company is now the second largest integrated manufacturer of solar cells and modules in India. It plans to invest INR 1,200 crore over the next two years to augment capacities.

The new plant was formally inaugurated by the municipal administration and urban development minister for Telangana, KT Rama Rao.

The manufacturing unit, a greenfield project, can produce 19.2%-efficient multi-crystalline cells using metal-catalyzed chemical etching (MCCE), textured black silicon. It will also produce 22.5%-efficient mono PERC cells. The products are based on 158.75×158.75mm silicon wafers but the factory is also equipped to process 182mm and 210mm-wafer-based cells.

Other highlights of the new manufacturing facility are 100% EL and visual sorting, and  highly automated equipment.
