The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) has signed a $10 million grant agreement with the International Solar Alliance (ISA) to boost the deployment of solar energy in developing countries.

The fifth assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) approved Solar Facility, a payment guarantee mechanism to mitigate risks associated with solar projects in Africa.

The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is overseeing bids from prospective contractors to supply, install and commission solar cold storage capacity in Senegal, Sudan, and Seychelles. Bidding is also open for two 2 MT systems in Djibouti.

RK Singh, India’s power minister, and president of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly, called on nations to support solar investments in developing and under-developed regions, including Africa, through low-cost finance and credit guarantee fund.

The state-owned power company, a partner of the International Solar Alliance, will help the Cuban government with developer selection and the signing of project agreements and will oversee solar plant implementation up to commissioning.

The International Solar Alliance is an international intergovernmental treaty-based organization headquartered in India that aims to reduce the cost of solar technology and mobilize finance to accelerate solar adoption in its member countries. 

The advisory committee will guide the International Solar Alliance on meeting its objective of mobilizing US$ 1 trillion investment in solar energy by 2030. Committee members include representatives from leading institutional investor like Africa50, CDPQ Global, IFC, the Development Bank of Southern Africa, Capricorn Investment Group, and Temasek.

The International Solar Alliance (ISA), which aims to mobilize more than $1 trillion of solar power investment by 2030 in its member countries, expanded its scope of work by launching programs on solar panel and battery waste management and solar-powered hydrogen production in its fourth assembly held recently.

The selected applicants are required to execute projects across categories like solar-powered cold storage, solar water pumps, solar-powered reverse-osmosis water systems and off-grid solar systems for primary health care centers on a turnkey basis. The work includes engineering, supply, erection, commissioning along with maintenance support for three years.
