The long read: Charging EVs with solar

Gautham Ram completed an electrical engineering degree in his home city of Chennai, India, and won a scholarship to complete a master’s at TU Delft in the Netherlands. He subsequently completed a PhD on the topic of charging EVs with solar. Speaking with pv magazine, Ram gave insights on his life, ongoing research, and his thoughts on EVs and charging.

Tamil Nadu floats new solar policy to generate 9 GW by 2022

Tamil Nadu government has unveiled a new solar energy policy 2019 that aims at generating 9 GW for the state by 2022. The policy would be applicable to projects, programmes and installations relating to both solar PV and thermal energy, including utility as well as consumer categories.

NLC prepares way for 1 GW of solar in Tamil Nadu

State-owned NLC India Ltd – formerly the Neyveli Lignite Corporation – has signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Tamil Nadu to set up a 1 GW solar project in the state.

Chennai could generate 1.38 GW from solar rooftops

Chennai has the potential to install 1.38 GW of rooftop solar PV which, if realized, could meet around 10% of the city’s electricity demand, according to a new study by Greenpeace and the Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute.
