Tata Power’s Jojobera Thermal Power Plant is helping students in and around Jojobera get closer to science and technology through its Club Enerji STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) programme, an effort that’s opening new doors for young learners from underserved communities in tier 2 and 3 cities.

What started with a single school and a handful of students has now reached to 20 schools and 4000+ students across Jojobera and the villages around it. The schools in collaboration with the program are now equipped with STEM labs and dedicated teachers who simplify subjects like energy conservation, sustainability, and robotics for the students. The focus is to make learning practical and engaging.

Focused on hands-on and experiential learning, students of STEM don’t just read about concepts, they test, build, and see for themselves how ideas work in the real world. Soon to be a part of the curriculum, regular plant visits will give students a chance to step inside a working power plant, connecting classroom lessons to live operations they might not witness otherwise.

The programme has already begun to show results, with students winning at national competitions. Their recent win at a national STEM competition in Bengaluru was a proud moment for the schools and a testament to what’s possible when opportunities reach every corner. Many of these students come from small towns and underserved communities but their ambition is big, they dream of becoming engineers, researchers, scientists and the list goes on. The STEM program helps these students in pursuing successful careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The curriculum is expanding too. With Robotics added and a Club Enerji Bootcamp on the way, the programme keeps pace with what today’s students need to stay curious and future-ready. Future aspirations include hosting a dedicated boot camp for higher secondary students on robotics, electronics and green energy, exposure visits for students at various green energy sites, science museums, technology parks and more. Additionally, a cohort of Enerji Mittras (Tata Power volunteers) will be created for mass level awareness about energy conservation and green energy. By making STEM education accessible and relevant, Tata Power’s Club Enerji STEM initiative is helping more young people discover what’s possible and take their first steps towards careers that can shape not just their own futures, but their communities too.
