Long highway drives for electric vehicle users just got faster and more convenient on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad highway. Tata Power today announced the first 180 kW ultra-fast EV charging station was made live at Vithal Kamat Restaurant, (Durves, Manor, NH-48 Mumbai – Ahmedabad Highway), marking a significant milestone in strengthening India’s EV infrastructure.
Strategically positioned along one of the country’s busiest intercity corridors, the high-capacity charger is designed to significantly reduce charging time, making long-distance EV travel more seamless, efficient, and reliable. The station is part of Tata Power’s EZ Charge network and supports fast-charging standards such as CCS 2 ensuring compatibility across a wide range of electric vehicles. With an estimated charging time of 15–30 minutes for 20% -80% charge, the charger enables quicker turnarounds for both personal and commercial EV users.
The charging station situated at Vithal Kamat Restaurant, offers travellers a seamless blend of mobility and comfort. While their vehicles charge, users can access clean restrooms, quality dining options, and comfortable spaces to relax, enhancing the overall highway travel experience. The charger significantly enhances connectivity for EV users traveling between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, addressing one of the most persistent barriers to EV adoption – range anxiety. By enabling faster charging and reliable access along highways, Tata Power continues to build confidence in long-distance EV travel.
This launch is part of Tata Power’s broader strategy to expand high-speed charging infrastructure across key national highways and mobility corridors. The company currently operates over 2 lakh home chargers, 6,700+ public, semi-public, and fleet charging points, and 1,200+ e-bus charging points across 630+ cities and towns. Its growing highway network, which includes 350 chargers underscores a strong focus on enabling seamless intercity EV mobility.
Backed by digital integration through Tata Power EZ Charge App, users can conveniently locate chargers, check real-time availability, and make seamless payments, further enhancing the charging experience. The newly installed charger is expected to support approximately 25-30 vehicles per day. Aligning with India’s clean mobility and sustainability goals, this milestone reinforces Tata Power’s commitment to accelerating EV adoption, strengthening charging accessibility, and supporting India’s transition toward a greener and more sustainable future.
