The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (the Alliance) have signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) to accelerate India’s energy transition. This transformative partnership aims to unlock crucial investments and provide technical assistance to propel India toward its ambitious climate targets.

The collaboration is strategically timed to address the dual challenge India faces: meeting a rapidly growing energy demand while simultaneously greening its economy to achieve Net-Zero by 2070. While India has already exceeded its initial climate commitments, the shift from traditional fuel requires an unprecedented scaling of clean energy and supporting infrastructure.

This partnership is critical for:

● Grid Stability and Integration: As solar and wind power are variable, the successful integration of massive renewable capacity requires sophisticated solutions like Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and smart grid management.

● Market Innovation: SECI has been pioneering innovative RE project configurations, such as Round-the-Clock (RTC) power and Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE). The collaboration will support the acceleration of these models to ensure a reliable, continuous power supply.

● Focus on Clean Tech: Advanced technologies are vital for greening hard-to-abate industrial sectors and ensuring long-term energy security for the nation.

“This strategic collaboration with the Global Energy Alliance is a major step in furthering SECI’s role as the implementing arm of India’s renewable energy ambitions,” said senior SECI official. “Through our combined expertise in executing pioneering RE projects, we can effectively address the challenges of grid integration, storage, and firm power. This partnership is vital to ensuring a reliable, affordable, and green power supply for every part of India.”

The SoI was signed by Shri Prashant Soni, DGM (Project Management), SECI and Saurabh Kumar, Vice President, India, Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet and exchanged by Shri Akash Tripathi, Managing Director, SECI, under the overall guidance of Shri Sivakumar V Vepakomma, Director (Power System), SECI.

The collaboration will focus on a multi-pronged approach to mobilize finance, provide technical expertise, and de-risk emerging clean energy technologies.

Key areas include strengthening the grid through renewable energy integration and developing comprehensive energy transition planning, utilizing modelling, forecasting, and system studies. A major focus will be on emerging clean technologies such as Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Furthermore, the entities will cooperate on energy efficiency, demand-side management, and consumer-centric interventions. This is supported by efforts in digitization, including asset mapping, data analytics, and intelligent grid systems.

Concepts that are validated through the Alliance’s studies or pilots and are mutually found feasible will move toward implementation through tenders/RFPs to select competent agencies for execution.

“India’s commitment to a rapid and equitable energy transition is a powerful example for the world. Our partnership with SECI underscores our mission to accelerate green economic opportunity for people and the planet,” said Saurabh Kumar, Vice President, India, Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet. “By focusing our efforts on innovative financial mechanisms and cutting-edge technologies like battery storage, we are helping to build a resilient energy system that will support India’s growth and its global climate leadership.”

This collaboration builds on the Alliance’s existing focus on digitalization and innovation through initiatives like Digitalization of Utilities for Energy Transition (DUET) and energy transition planning across different states.
