Utility Scale PV

Global solar additions to hit 310 GW in 2024, says IEA

The International Energy Agency (IEA) said in a new report that solar will remain the main source of global renewable capacity expansion in 2023, accounting for 286 GW. In 2024, the figure is set to grow to almost 310 GW, driven by lower module prices, greater uptake of distributed PV systems, and a policy push for large-scale deployment.

Effect of wind on solar panel cooling in desert areas

Researchers in Morocco have carried out an experimental investigation which has confirmed that even in hot desert climates, the wind has a positive effect on reducing the PV module temperature, improving the electrical production as well as the conversion efficiency.

Module supply-demand mismatches, higher prices to hit India’s utility-scale solar deployment this year

After a record-breaking 14 GW addition in 2022, India’s annual utility-scale solar deployment will slow down in 2023 due to lower awarded capacity in 2022 and supply-demand mismatch for high-capacity modules, says a new report by The International Energy Agency (IEA).

Tata Power Renewable commissions 110 MW solar project for Kerala State Electricity Board

The 110 MW solar project located in Rajasthan will supply green power to Kerala.

Improving ground-mounted solar power plant performance via orbiting reflectors

Scientists in the United Kingdom have proposed using orbiting solar reflectors to enhance the electricity yield of terrestrial solar power plants. They claim this new technology may be particularly beneficial for improving generation at dusk and dawn, when irradiance is lower.

Terrain-following solar tracker with a pneumatic twist

Sunfolding’s new TopoTrack rows are reportedly 10 times shorter than traditional trackers, and they can provide 20 degrees of variation between trackers, thus improving slope tolerance between rows.

Funds may dry up for APAC oil and gas firms slow on diversification path

While more financiers are committing to limiting capital for fossil fuel, their oil and gas sector borrowers in the Asia Pacific region still adopt a wait-and-see approach to new energy.

Global investment in clean energy nearly doubles that of fossil fuels

For every dollar invested in fossil fuels, 1.7 dollars are invested in clean technologies. Five years ago, it was a one-to-one ratio, said the International Energy Agency.

L&T advances renewables infrastructure for world’s largest green hydrogen plant

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is set to begin constructing the renewable energy generation, storage, and grid infrastructure for the green hydrogen production facility in Saudi Arabia, as it has made significant progress from design to procurement.

India to add 20 GW of renewable energy capacity in FY2024, says ICRA

ICRA expects India to add 16 GW of solar power generation capacity, 2 GW of wind and another 2 GW from hybrid projects in FY2023-24.
