Websol Energy System Ltd has approved the addition of 4 GW of solar cell and module manufacturing capacity, with a total investment of INR 3,000 crore. The manufacturer said the new cell capacity will be based on TOPCon technology.
The expansion will be carried out in two phases through a wholly owned subsidiary: 2 GW solar cell and module line by June 2027 and an additional 2 GW solar cell and module line by June 2028.
Websol stated that the total investment for this manufacturing capacity expansion will be financed through a combination of internal accruals and lending facilities from financial institutions.
The capacity expansion builds on the company’s existing capacity of a 600 MW solar cell line and 550 MW solar module line at Falta, West Bengal. The solar cell line is operating at an effective capacity utilisation of 90%. Both these lines were funded through a combination of internal accruals, preferential issue of equity shares and lending facilities from financial institutions. An additional 600 MW solar cell line, co-located at Falta, is scheduled to become operational in October 2025. This line has been funded completely through internal accruals and will take Websol’s total solar cell manufacturing capacity to 1.2 GW.
Post-expansion, Websol’s total manufacturing capacity will reach 5.2 GW for solar cells and 4.5 GW modules by 2028.
Websol’s Board of directors has also approved a stock split in a 1:10 ratio, subject to shareholder approval at the AGM on 29th September 2025.
