NLC India Renewables Ltd (NIRL), the renewable energy arm of state-run coal miner NLC India Ltd, has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (RVUNL) for an 810 MW solar power project in Rajasthan.
The project will be established in the 2 GW Pugal Solar Park being developed by RVUNL in the barren lands of the Bikaner district. The proposed site is bestowed with abundant solar irradiation.
NLC had secured the project through a competitive tariff-based bidding process by RVUNL. The project is being implemented under Mode 8 of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s (MNRE) Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park (UMREPP) Scheme.
Once operational, the project is expected to generate around two billion units (BU) of green electricity annually and help offset around 1.5 million metric tons of CO2 emissions per year.
NLC India is India’s first central public sector undertaking (CPSU) to establish 1 GW of renewable energy projects in the country. The 810 MW PugaI solar project takes it a step closer to its strategic target of achieving 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, aligned with India’s decarbonization and energy security goals.
