ReNew, a NASDAQ-listed decarbonization solutions company in India, has inaugurated its 1.3 GWp solar project in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan. The project was unveiled by minister of new and renewable energy, Pralhad Joshi, in the presence of chief minister of Rajasthan, Bhajan Lal Sharma.
The project uses ReNew solar panels, 90% of which were manufactured at the company’s Jaipur factory. The electricity generated from the project will be supplied to the consumers of Rajasthan at a competitive tariff of INR 2.18/kWh.
The solar power project spans about 3,500 acres across multiple villages, including Rampuriya, Bhinajpura, Hastinapur, and Masuriya in the Pokran and Bhaniyana tehsils of Jaisalmer district. It is expected to generate about 2,490 million units of electricity annually, meeting the energy requirements of about 5 lakh households in Rajasthan. The project will also help offset about 2.3 million tons of CO2 (based on 936g CO2/unit) equivalent emissions annually. Communities around the project site will receive 25 years of fixed income through land lease agreements for their uncultivated land.
MNRE Minister Pralhad Joshi said, “The inauguration of this nearly 1.3 GWp solar site in Jaisalmer, built entirely with Made-in-India modules — 90% of them manufactured right here in Rajasthan — is a shining example of contributing to Atmanirbhar Bharat [self-reliant India]. I commend the Government of Rajasthan for this achievement and companies like ReNew for its commitment to sustainability and local empowerment. Rajasthan is not just harnessing the sun — it is shaping the future of India’s energy landscape.”
Sumant Sinha, founder, chairman & CEO, ReNew, added, “The state of Rajasthan has always been central to our growth story, with approximately 5 GW of our total operational capacity located here, backed by investments exceeding INR 21,000 crore. Additionally, we also have a 4 GW solar module manufacturing facility in Jaipur, underscoring our long-term commitment to the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
ReNew has a clean energy portfolio of 17.4 GW on a gross basis as of Dec. 31, 2024. In addition to being an independent power producer in India, it provides end-to-end solutions in the areas of clean energy, digitalization, storage, and carbon markets.
