Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has commissioned 190.5 MW solar component of its firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) project at Kalasar in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The project forms part of the overall contracted capacity of 460 MW being developed under SJVN’s FDRE Tranche-1.

The project integrates large-scale solar generation with 115 MWh advanced battery energy storage system (BESS) and grid support technologies to deliver reliable, dispatchable renewable power, according to Tata Power.

The project will supply power to the distribution companies HPPC, MSEDCL and NPCL.

TPREL said the project involved several execution challenges, including compressed timelines and global supply chain disruptions affecting the availability of transmission-line materials, module mounting structures and other critical equipment. The company also deployed technologies including a battery energy storage system, harmonic filter bank and static VAR generator systems.

The switchyard was completed in three months, while the harmonic filter bank was completed within one month, according to the company.

With this project, TPREL’s total renewable utility-scale capacity has reached 12.4 GW. Of this, around 6.9 GW is operational, including 5.6 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind capacity, while close to 5.5 GW is under various stages of implementation and is expected to be commissioned in phases over the next 24 months.
