Power Grid Corp. of India Ltd (POWERGRID) has invited domestic bids to preselect a contractor for a 187.5 MW/750 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project at the Maheswaram 400/220 kV substation in Telangana, India, as the utility intends to participate in Telangana Power Generation Corp. Ltd’s (TGGENCO) selection process for a battery energy storage system developer (BESSD) for the project.

To support its participation in the TGGENCO selection process, POWERGRID has launched a domestic competitive bidding process to preselect a qualified contractor for the project package.

The selected bidder will be associated with POWERGRID for its tariff bid in TGGENCO’s request for selection (RfS) process. The contractor will be awarded the execution contract if POWERGRID is declared the successful bidder and receives a letter of award from TGGENCO. The project would then be implemented by POWERGRID or its nominated company on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis.

The scope covers the design, supply, erection, testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the 187.5 MW/750 MWh battery storage facility. The system is designed to provide four hours of storage at its rated power output.

The project completion period (successful commissioning and takeover of the facility) is 15 months. The contractor will also be responsible for comprehensive maintenance for 15 years following commissioning.

POWERGRID said the lowest evaluated bidder meeting the specified capacity, capability and other eligibility requirements will be preselected. The selected bidder must also confirm that it will not participate independently or indirectly, in TGGENCO’s RfS process for the same project.
