ChemVolt Global begins work on 5 GWh lithium-ion battery, BESS facility in, Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh
ChemVolt Global is setting up a 5 GWh lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility with integrated battery energy storage system (BESS) production capabilities at Ratlam Mega Industrial Park in Madhya Pradesh, India. The project entails an investment of INR 2,500 crore and is expected to create 3,500 jobs direct and indirect.
Kuldeep Gupta, founder at ChemVolt, told pv magazine that the facility will manufacture 314 Ah prismatic lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells and 750 Ah lithium iron manganese phosphate (LFMP) cells in a blade format. The production lines will be integrated with BESS manufacturing capabilities.
Gupta added that the 314 Ah LFP prismatic cells will serve battery energy storage systems and heavy commercial vehicles, while the 750 Ah LFMP blade-format cells will be exclusively used for BESS applications.
Site preparation, including ground levelling, has begun at Plot No. 24 in the Smart Industrial Township in Ratlam. The project will span 23.9 hectares of land, said Gupta.
The company plans to commission its first 1 GWh production line in the fourth quarter of FY 2027. Installation of additional equipment and production assets will continue in phases, although ChemVolt Global has not disclosed the detailed timeline for the remaining capacity.
