India added 872 MW of new rooftop solar capacity in the first six months (January-June) of 2023. Q2 2023 rooftop PV additions stood at 387 MW, nearly 23% of overall 1.7 GW solar installations during the quarter, according to the Q2 2023 Mercom India Rooftop Solar Market Report.
In Q2 2023, residential consumers accounted for 54% of the quarterly capacity addition, industrial consumers 25%, and commercial consumers 21%. Industrial installations in the quarter were primarily in pharmaceuticals, chemicals, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), automobile and auto components sectors.
Rooftop solar system costs dropped 2.7% quarter-QoQ and 4.2% YoY.
India’s cumulative rooftop solar capacity reached 9.6 GW at the end of Q2 2023.
Gujarat continued to lead in rooftop solar installations, contributing 26% of the cumulative installations, followed by Maharashtra and Rajasthan. The top 10 states accounted for 76% of cumulative rooftop solar installations as of June 2023.
