The Hydrogen Stream: AEM electrolysis could deliver hydrogen at $3.27/kg, say Repsol, P2HP
Power to Hydrogen (P2H2) and Repsol completed a 1,250-hour pilot of P2H2’s hybrid AEM electrolyzer technology, demonstrating operation at 40% to 100% load, pressures up to 30 bar and hydrogen purity of up to 99.9%. P2H2 projects an LCOH of €3.86 ($4.47)/kg, potentially falling to €2.82/kg under optimized renewable energy conditions, and the companies are considering a 500 kW-to-MW-scale demonstration.
The Hydrogen Stream: Commissioning begins for 2.2 GW Neom H2 project in Saudi Arabia
In other news, the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Energy Transition reportedly confirmed the cancellation of the 2.1 GW HyScale 100 electrolyzer project at a German refinery, with a lack of planning certainty cited among the reasons. Power to Hydrogen has begun installing a 500 kW AEM electrolyzer in Antwerp, while Hystar and BHEL are partnering on local PEM electrolyzer manufacturing in India, and Italy has launched a €400 million annual renewable hydrogen support scheme.

The Hydrogen Stream: JCN launches hydrogen-powered backhoe loader
JCB launched its first hydrogen-powered backhoe loader under a £100M hydrogen engine program, featuring a 55 kW hydrogen engine and roof-mounted 350-bar composite tanks designed to deliver diesel-like power and a full workday of operation.
The Hydrogen Stream: Ireland’s LCOH on par with Morocco, Brazil
Fraunhofer ISE, in collaboration with Irishi energy company ESB, developed a methodology showing that Ireland is a competitive location for renewable power-to-X and green hydrogen production with costs comparable to Morocco, South Africa, and Brazil, supported by strong wind resources, policy backing, and infrastructure potential.
Solar PV Capex could fall to $192/kW by 2050
A review of 60 renewable energy studies finds that by 2050, solar PV and wind could supply 80–100% of electricity, but overly conservative Capex assumptions and simplified PV modeling often underestimate deployment potential. While future PV costs depend on supply chains and geopolitical risks, historical experience suggests medium-term risks are manageable, and material constraints are being resolved.
