The Hydrogen Stream: Dutch researchers calculate green H2 costs as low as €7.2/kg
Researchers at the University of Groningen have calculated green hydrogen production costs of €7.2/kg to €7.3/kg using renewable power purchase agreements and hybrid electricity supply configurations, compared with €7.7/kg for wholesale electricity sourcing. The study found that long-term revenue guarantees are essential to making large-scale hydrogen projects financially viable.

The Hydrogen Stream: AEM electrolysis could deliver hydrogen at $3.27/kg, say Repsol, P2HP
Power to Hydrogen (P2H2) and Repsol completed a 1,250-hour pilot of P2H2’s hybrid AEM electrolyzer technology, demonstrating operation at 40% to 100% load, pressures up to 30 bar and hydrogen purity of up to 99.9%. P2H2 projects an LCOH of €3.86 ($4.47)/kg, potentially falling to €2.82/kg under optimized renewable energy conditions, and the companies are considering a 500 kW-to-MW-scale demonstration.
Why the next breakthrough in green hydrogen may come from startups, not energy giants
Several leading global energy companies have either delayed, restructured, or withdrawn from major hydrogen initiatives after reassessing market conditions and commercial viability. These decisions reflect prudent business strategy rather than a lack of commitment to hydrogen, but they also highlight an important structural reality: organisations designed to minimise risk are rarely the ones that pioneer disruptive technological breakthroughs. Startups, on the other hand, are built for precisely this kind of challenge.

The Hydrogen Stream: Commissioning begins for 2.2 GW Neom H2 project in Saudi Arabia
In other news, the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Energy Transition reportedly confirmed the cancellation of the 2.1 GW HyScale 100 electrolyzer project at a German refinery, with a lack of planning certainty cited among the reasons. Power to Hydrogen has begun installing a 500 kW AEM electrolyzer in Antwerp, while Hystar and BHEL are partnering on local PEM electrolyzer manufacturing in India, and Italy has launched a €400 million annual renewable hydrogen support scheme.
