Payal Industrial Park (PIP) has entered into a strategic partnership with US-based startup Fourier to deploy a hydrogen energy storage system at its industrial park in Dahej, Gujarat. The project aims to provide round-the-clock clean power for PIP’s industrial operations by combining renewable energy generation from solar and wind with long-duration energy storage.

While batteries have emerged as a short-duration solution, they remain cost-prohibitive for extended backup needs. According to Fourier, its solution combines battery-based fast-response capabilities with on-site hydrogen storage to provide backup power for durations ranging from 12 hours to more than a week, depending on the system configuration.

On-site hydrogen production and storage

Fourier said its energy storage platform is based on on-site hydrogen production, eliminating the complex, hazardous, and expensive logistics of transporting hydrogen by generating it exactly where and when it is needed.

The company manufactures modular hydrogen production units designed in a server-rack format and equipped with swappable electrolyzer “blades” to ensure maximum uptime, redundancy, and easy maintenance.

According to the company, the hydrogen production system is integrated with a battery management platform that monitors and balances power supply and demand in real time.

With both hydrogen production and power generation components of the project located within the industrial park, the partnership creates a decentralized energy model that reduces dependence on centralized infrastructure and long-distance fuel logistics. This pilot is expected to serve as a scalable blueprint for industrial clusters across India, particularly as demand grows for 24/7 clean power in manufacturing, data centers, and heavy industry.
